Fire Station 5/ Apparatus and Maintenance Division
Fire Station 5 serves as the Apparatus and Maintenance Division in its role as part of headquarters. Built in 2006, it is a single storey building and is 17,900 sq ft. It is home to the Training Division, Mechanical Division, and one fire fighting crew.
This fire hall was the first to be opened since 1981. It prides itself as an example of Oshawa’s council’s commitment to providing the safety to residents as claimed by Mayor John Gray, the mayor of Oshawa at the time. Even retired Oshawa fire chiefs and representatives from the project team, Thomas Brown Architects and Garritano Bros, helped with the ceremony. Station 5 started operations on September 20, 2006, with Chief Steve Meringer as head.
