Northern Portuguese Cultural Centre (NPCC)
1983 - present
The Northern Portuguese Cultural Centre (NPCC) was founded in 1983, serving as one of two community hubs for Oshawa and Durham residents of Portuguese descent. The club originated with northern Portuguese roots and traditions, specifically Minho; this focus is reflected in its name and Rancho folk dance group. However, membership and events are open to all.
A Portuguese cultural presence has been felt in Oshawa through events such as the Oshawa Folk Arts Council’s annual festival (today known as Fiesta Week) since at least 1963. The NPCC has consistently participated from year to year.
